How Others Perceive Us

"In working to save the unborn, let's not worry about what will happen to us if we act; let's worry about what will happen to the unborn if we don't"-Father Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

It's easy, especially as a teenager (maybe not especially, but I don't have any experience past teenager-dom) to worry about what others will think of you if you stand up for something. Will you be the weird kid with the cause who can't talk about anything else? Will you be the one who only posts things on Facebook about "the cause" trying to guilt trip others into joining? Will you be the one who looks down on others because they're not involved in "the cause"? These are all things I try to avoid, but sometimes avoiding it can turn into a lack of boldness, or fear.

Instead of focusing on how others perceive us, let's focus on the people who need our help: the children in the womb, the pregnant women needing love, women and men overcoming past abortions, and everyone who needs Christ's love.

  1. Yes! Standing up for life is sooo important. Sometimes it's hard because my friends (who I used to be really good friends with) think I'm actually doing the wrong thing in being involved in the pro-life movement. It's HARD. But, goodness, it's a LOT harder to die in the safest place on earth (the womb) and by getting your head torn off (literally) or being burned to death. And it's a LOT harder to have aborted your baby and now you have no place to turn for help except for the people who killed your baby for you since the Church won't even lift a finger for you. God is calling us to stand for what we believe, so doggone it, we should! Thanks for this post Becca!

  2. I was told by one of my best friends that maybe I should tone down the pro-life Facebook posts. She knew how strongly I felt about abortion, but was worried that other people on Facebook might be offended. Not gonna lie, it stung for a second. Don't get me wrong, she's still one of my closest friends, even if she doesn't believe the same way I do about Life.

But you know what? Even though we might be hundreds (and in Aubry's case, thousands!) of miles away from each other, I'm in good company. :)I'm thankful for people like you, Becca, and Aubry. It definitely makes things easier.

  3. Shannon,
My first thought when I read that was: "yyyyyyYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!" I didn't know anyone else passionate for life as much as I am for probably two years. Finding you and Aubry was kind of really, really fantastic. We are in good company!

  4. Haha, wow, I think the three of us should keep talking because I need encouragement that there really are others who share my passion for fighting abortion. I don't know anyone who lives here who has the same passion I do except my supervisor at the CPC I volunteer at. I think it's awesome that we all got connected at stuff, definitely a gift from God!!!

Oh, and Becca, would you still like to guest post on my blog?

  5. It really is! We should find a good way to check in with each other :)

Yes ma'am! I'm currently working on a post for you. I'm hoping to get it to you soon :)

  6. Okay, cool:) That's fine! I haven't been posting much myself, been a little busy, so I understand:)

We should definitely the three of us keep in touch:):):)

  7. Yes, Aubry!! Sorry I haven't emailed you in FOREVER! I've been avoiding the internet, but I still check on things every once in a while. :) I hope you're doing great, we need to catch up.

P.S. Becca, I'm so glad that you're going to guest blog with Aubry! Seriously, we all need to meet up at the March for Life some year...

  8. Haha, that's okay:) Becca, you're getting all these comments on your blog!!! Haha, and we've kind of sort of strayed from the topic of this post, haha. Yes! I'll email you, Shannon, or message you on the reb forum, which have you been on there lately? It's kind of going crazy, haha. It would seriously be AWESOME if we could all meet one day! I love how we're like all doing the same thing but seperately, and God allowed us to meet:) Love you lovely girls!

  9. It really is mind boggling how we are all essentially doing the same thing, just in completely different places and we haven't actually met in person. God and the Internet are both amazing. Haha. I'd love to meet you ladies someday! That would be so cool. :)

Haha yes, we are a little off topic. But that's okay. I've never raked in the comments like this before ;)

  10. Seriously! Maybe we should like set up a forum or something where we can all keep in touch, and then if we find anyone else who is doing the same thing, they can join...Idk, kind of a complicated way to keep in touch, lol...Becca, what's the status of your book right now? And Shannon, do you know yet when you're going to finish the site?

  11. Finding a good way to keep in contact would be great. Maybe even just a group email? I am quite ignorant when it comes to forums, but if you can set one up I'd be up for it!

Status of book. Good question. Some chapters are on their third edit, some haven't been written. So it's all over the place :) I have pretty much no clue how long it'll take me to get done, I'm just letting God take care of the whole timing thing. I'd love to have it done before I go to college next fall, but we'll see :) Yes, Shannon! How's the website?

  12. Group email = sweet idea :) Becca, I literally laughed out loud when you said that God and the internet are both awesome in the same sentence. Haha, it's true though!

Nope, haven't been on the Reb forums in a long time! Like I said, I've kind of been avoiding the internet, but I still check-up on things.

As for the site, it's on hold. I'm waiting for some other things to fall into place. I'm not sure what those things are yet, but I just have a sense that something else needs to happen. :)

  13. I know the feeling of just waiting for something to happen but you don't know what yet! That's why I have two chapters that aren't written yet. They kind of super important chapters, but I know God will provide me with the perfect content when the time is right. He'll do the same for your website, I'm sure!!

  14. Yeah, I half expected that when I started my blog last April it would become famous and I would become famous overnight. Lol, I'm a little prideful, yeah. How little I knew who and what made up the pro-life movement. I wasn't going to sweep in a conform my fellow teenagers in one big swoop and a really bad looking blog. I haven't even spoken about it yet (I hope to sometime though, I would be scared, and it's not something I would necessarily want to do, but something I feel called to do, eventually), and my stats aren't near to amazing. There was a time that I really felt like I needed to wait (once I started listening to God and what He wanted in my pro-life life). I'm still waiting, for what I have no clue. It could be that I become a professional contemporary christian artist soon and that's my outlet to speak to people. Who knows? But I think our whole life should be spent waiting and acting, waiting and acting, waiting and acting. All the time searching for what God wants in our life. Hmm, how peaceful that sounds!

  15. I love the way you put that. It really does sound peaceful! No room for stress or worry when you live that way. :)
I feel the same about speaking. I'm not a brilliant speaker, but I do feel like it could happen. You're completely right, just waiting on God. God'll use your blog for great things, just you wait. Scratch that, He IS using it for great things! And there's more things to come!
Music is such a powerful, incredible way to speak to people. It's one of God's coolest gifts, I think :)

  16. Oh, and yes. I definitely thought when I first started to write this book that it would be done in a year and sweeping the nation by now. Two years later, I'm still working on it... but if I had finished it then, it hardly would have been worth it. I've learned so much and God has brought me so much since then. Things that are in my book hadn't even happened at that point (like Abby Johnson and Live Action's stuff!). God really does know what He's doing.

  17. Totally! Even in the past few months that I've been developing my blog, I've learned soooo much. Especially in the couple months I've been at my CPC. And I'm still learning, there won't ever be a point that I feel like "I've arrived" or anything like that. You've been at this a whole lot longer than me, Becca. I've only been active in the pro-life movement since March, when I heard Abby Johnson speak, and decided to finally listen to God on the whole thing (fyi, it's a really good idea:)). What will happen in a couple years????? Lol, I wish so bad that I knew!!!=D
